How do I connect expansion modules?

The X-400, X-400C, and X-600M can be expanded with expansion units. Expansion units provide the main unit with additional I/O that all report back to the master device’s dashboard.

On the front of the unit, there’s a port labeled “Expansion”. Connect your expansion cable, which can be purchased here, to this port, then into the expansion port on any of the ControlByWeb expansion devices (X11s, X12s, X22s etc.). T-Mobile covers a little more of the western states, providing solid coverage.

The following video shows the X-600M being connected to expansion modules: X-600M Wiring & Installation

After the expansion modules have been wired to your X-400(C) or X-600M device, the expansion module and additional I/O need to be added on the setup page. The process differs between the X-400 and X-600M.

On the X-400:

  1. On the left side of the setup page, select the “Devices” tab.
  2. Click on the blue Find Devices button and wait for the unit to finish searching.
  3. The module you connected should appear on the device list, then click the blue Add + button next to it.
  4. A popup window will appear where you enter information about the device.
  5. Once finished, click the blue Add Device button.
  6. On the left side of the setup page under the “I/O Setup” tab, select the I/O section that you’re looking to add. (ex. Relays)
  7. Click the blue Add Expansion + button.
  8. In the popup window, change the necessary details and select the device you’re looking to add in the Device: drop down menu. Advanced features can also be accessed by clicking on the Advanced Features button.
  9. When you’re finished setting up the expansion module, click the blue Add Expansion + button.

The I/O available on the device can now be used by the X-400(C).

On the X-600M:

  1. On the left side of the setup page, select the “Devices” tab.
  2. In the top left of the page, click on the Find New Devices button and wait for the unit to finish searching.
  3. The module you connected should appear on the list, click the white Add button on the right side of the page.
  4. A popup window will appear where you can select the I/O that you want added from the device.
  5. Once finished, click the white Add Checked I/O button.
