HOW IT WORKS

1. Define Your ‘I/O Locations’

An I/O Location is a single, contained physical area within an industrial environment where a collection of sensors, actuators, and other control points can be practically wired back to one central ControlByWeb device.

The primary consideration is the physical proximity and wiring feasibility for these components. If a group of industrial assets (e.g., pumps, valves, temperature sensors) are too geographically spread out to be wired to the same point, they define separate I/O Locations.

A simpler way to think about it is like a local junction box or control cabinet for machinery. For more information, check out the example below:

Each ‘I/O Location’ will require their own dedicated ControlByWeb device.

Isometric illustration of an industrial facility with I/O Locations defined in two different spots of the plant. In location 1 there is a ControlByWeb Micro PLC that monitors a level sensor and controls a pump. In location 2 there is another ControlByWeb Micro PLC monitoring a pressure sensor and controlling a valve.
Example of I/O Locations: A place where a group of inputs or outputs can be easily wired back to one ControlByWeb controller.

2. Identify Which Types of I/O You Need For Each I/O Location’
