ControlByWeb devices send log files that can be opened in Excel to keep a longer log history, store multiple logs in a single place, and provide advanced data analysis with graphing. To learn about log files and how they are created in the device’s firmware, read more here.

The log file of your device can be found at deviceip/log.txt (example: 192.168.1.2/log.txt), where you can right click and “Save As” to save the text file. After you have exported or saved your log file, follow the steps below:Windows

  1. Open Excel and go to the “Data” tab.
  2. Select “From Text/CSV.”
  3. Browse your computer and select the log file(s) that you want in Excel.

Mac

  1. Open Excel and go to the “Data” tab.
  2. Select “Get Data (Power Query).”
  3. Select “Text/CSV.”
  4. Browse your computer and select the log file(s) that you want in Excel.

You will see that the Excel sheet is created and includes columns for Date/Time and Inputs/Outputs and rows for each individual log.

If you only need part of a log file, or you are going to copy/paste the text into an Excel file, use the Text to Columns button in the “Data” tab. Set your delimiter to commas only.
